Staying motivated!

Staying motivated!

A few weeks ago I was invited to present at a Rotaract Club. During the presentation, a very keen goal setter asked me, "How do you stay motivated?" Great question! Goals after all require a lot of discipline and motivation to fulfill them! Here is what a group of young community givers and I came up with:

1.  Surround yourself with "dream encouragers", that is positive people and people that believe in you and will encourage and support you. Stay away from "dream killers" or the really sceptical, argumentative people unless you are ready for someone to challenge your idea and you wouldn't mind a "devil's advocate"

2.  Remind yourself why your goal is important to you and use that energy to keep you going. If you find yourself constantly putting off steps toward your goal, ask yourself, "Why am I putting this off?" "Why did I start this goal in the first place" and, "Is it still important to me?" If it isn't important anymore, let it go and if it is still what you really want keep at it!

3.  Reward yourself! Take time to celebrate when you've achieved your goals! When you are working towards a goal that you value but you're struggling with motivation, think of a reward for yourself when that goal is ticked off. Focus on the reward if that helps keep you on track!

4.  For the BIG goals...break down the steps required for success. Monitor and review your progress and don't forget to celebrate when you complete each step to help keep you motivated and recognise how far you have come!

5.  Get accountable! Tell people about your goal, whether it is face-to-face or using the SSAB goal setting tool. Document your goals and share them with others. Once your goal is out of your head and into the world amazing things can happen and you may just feel even more inclined to push through when things get difficult!

These are just a few that we came up with, and all ones that I find work for me...I am currently on my way to this gorgeous new purse, all I have to do is 8 more runs consistently over 4 weeks and it is mine!
