Be careful who you ask for feedback. Especially if it's feedback on your precious dreams!
Getting feedback is so important, particularly feedback and ideas and thoughts from people who know more than you do about the area that your goal fits in. However, be careful! Some people will tell you their thoughts and opinions as though they are gospel and express that they think you must be stupid if you go through with your "dumb" plan. Not exactly constructive!!! Ah...plus it might cause quite a lot of stress, massive questioning of yourself and possibly some tears!
So after a recent experience of my own, I listened to some “dream killing”...shed a few tears as I saw my goal stomped on...and then I did some thinking. I decided, this is one opinion...I need to get some other opinions before I go and make any rash decisions. I then tried to pull any truths that I could see and yes I could see a few. Next, I stopped and tried to remember why my goal was important to me.
Right now...a few days later...I am thankful for the experience I had. While the approach totally crushed me at the time, it has made me think more about what I actually want. Sometimes when you are knee deep in a goal or big dream you are compelled to keep pushing through...especially if a lot of time, energy and money have already been invested.
So I haven't instantly reacted and given up or decided to go full steam ahead just to, "show them!" I have decided to think a bit more before I take the next step and go back to the question, "why is this important to me?"
So my lesson, next time you ask for feedback on your dreams, be cautious of people who might not take care of them…and if you do receive some negative or challenging feedback, don’t just let it defeat you and give up. No way!!! That's your goal and it's up to you to decide what you're going to do with it!! Take it as an opportunity to review your goal and reset your focus.
