Where's your head at???

Do you walk around with one million things in your head? Do you arrive at work and wonder how you got there because your mind was racing? Do you leave home and wonder if you turned the iron off? For the busy minds out there this article is for you.

Trying to carry everything around in your head and remember it all is just hard work! You will end up forgetting something or you will wind up so distracted by your thoughts that you won't be able to focus on anything or anyone.

When your thoughts pop up clear your head by scribbling yourself a note or adding a task to your to do list or use your SSAB goal setting tool. Get it out of your head and put it somewhere where you will be reminded. Let systems remember things for you. There is so much information that we have to process every second that it is impossible to take in everything and easy to forget some things you wish you hadn't. Set yourself reminders whether you are at work or at home. Reminders of things to do and also reminders of the things that are important to you that often take a back seat when they shouldn't.

I keep a notepad beside my bed because for some reason I get all my best ideas at night just before bed. This also seems to be the time when I remember lots of things that I have thought of during the day but then lost in distraction. The times when I don't joint down a note or put a task in my mobile are the nights where I try and remember that thing and sleep at the same time...for some reason this impacts my sleep! No surprises there! When I joint the thought down I am then able to sleep so much better! Then in the morning when I wake up from a great nights sleep my reminder is waiting for me.

At work, have the sticky notes close to you so that you take note when someone asks you to do something or you make a commitment to someone. That way when you get bombarded by the next thing you will find your note later and get the reminder you need.

Please don't carry all your ideas and thoughts around in your head. You will go mad or you will forget things that you wish you hadn't. Use systems to help you to remember so that you can free your head up to focus on whatever your task at hand might be. Clearing your head will reduce distractions which will help you to be more efficient, more "in the moment" and will help reduce your stress. Give it a go. It works for me.
