We asked Renee what she did to make her big goal happen and this is what she said -
- I developed a close relationship as a volunteer and supporter of the Children’s Welfare Centre (CWC) Nepal (www.cwcnepal.org )
- I returned to CWC many times to love, play, break up fights, help with English, cuddle and above all make the children and staff of CWC feel special
- I established a fundraising tour to the CWC in conjunction with the Rotaract Club of South Brisbane
- I began a charity to support continuing tours to Nepal and provide an opportunity for people to sponsor children, volunteer at the orphanage, donate goods and services and co-ordinate fundraising events
What was her Start Small step / goal?
The first step for Renee was to decide how making a significant contribution to disadvantaged children would 'fit' into her life. This involved talking to her husband and family and friends and getting ideas and help with working out what she could do and what needed to be done and by when. Renee made her goal SMART and started breaking down the goal into steps to be done.

What was the outcome and where are things at right now?
In January 2010 Renee, and her husband Dave, took a group of young Aussies over to Nepal and gave them a trip of a lifetime while raising $14 000 for the Children’s Welfare Centre Nepal. Right now, Renee’s charity Children’s Aid International Inc is a few months away from its official launch. The charity is currently responsible for having 8 children sponsored and 2 further Nepal Tours in the pipeline. The Children’s Aid International Inc is on the way to raising $40 000 to purchase a rice field for the CWC orphanage to support ongoing food stores and self sustainability.

Did she have any obstacles along the way?
Renee is one crazy busy chick! When she started this initiative she was also balancing a full-time job, family responsibilities, oh and a wedding!!! Renee says that her biggest obstacle was her fear of failure and people around her telling her that she was taking on too much.

What helped Renee to Achieve Big?
For Renee, she wanted to make a positive contribution to the lives of children in a developing country and to empower others to do the same. Renee focused on this as her motivator when things were getting challenging and reminded herself that she could make her dream happen with hard work, a little risk taking, a lot of planning and a positive attitude. Renee also sought support from her husband and likeminded people when she needed extra inspiration and encouragement.
